Spotlight is the 2015 American drama film directed by Tom McCarthy and written by McCarthy and Josh Singer. The film was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for the Public Service 2003.


The film is about the "Spotlight" team of The Boston Globe newspaper, the oldest investigative newspaper in the US. This team is trying to clarify the harassment when a church that comes up with harassment attempts to clear itself.
Marty Baron, the new editor-in-chief of Globe, commissioned the Spotlight team in 2001 to follow an article about a local priest who has been accused of sexually abusing dozens of children for 30 years. Spotlight editor Walter Robby Robinson, reporters, Sacha Pfeiffer (Rachel McAdams) and Michael Rezendes and researcher Matt Carroll decide to dive deeper into the case. They try to find old witnesses and documents about allegations of harassment in the Catholic Church. As the research progresses, they begin to find and interview children who have been subjected to harassment. As a result of one year of research, Boston's high-level religious, social and administrative unity of the decades that are hidden in the reality of the finger.
The Spotlight Team, which follows the incident, reveals that the Roman Catholic priests in Massachusetts were sexually harassed and concealed by the Boston Archbishopric. As a result of their research, the team learns that there are some 90 priestly priests in Boston and an end to 87 priests, thanks to a former priest who is trying to improve pedophilia priests. After this stage, they accelerate their work to reach more victims. The September 11 event, which took place in 2001 and is perceived as a major security threat in the US, slows down the team's research. The Spotlight team, which doesn't leave this job, recovers and resumes their research. Michael Rezendes (Mark Ruffalo) discovers some documents. Cardinal Law, who is aware of the problem, ignores them.
Spotlight explained how the unrestrained authority given to any political or religious organization can be destructive, and how much it can ruin the lives of huge societies.
This film, which is indirectly related to the Social Work, reveals that child sexual abuse is a crime, and that all kinds of authorities should be taken into consideration for the well-being of children and for this, every component of society should take the role of advocacy for children's rights.
