Work and Travel Program
Hello, This is Ebru. I am a second-year Nutrition and Dietetics English Track student. I'm going to tell you about my Work and Travel experience last summer.
 
The  Work Travel program provides foreign students with an opportunity to live and work in the United States during their summer vacation experience and to be exposed to the people and way of life in the United States. With this program, you can earn money while you travel and improve your foreign language.
 
One of my biggest dreams was to go to America. I've always loved travelling and learning about new cultures. Also, I wanted to go abroad and improve my English level both for my department and for my personal life. So I started to research this program. There are a lot of programs to go abroad. Their fees were almost the same, but I was going to spend a lot of money and this would be very costly. At the same time, I had less time to stay in other programs. In the Work and Travel program, I would have to pay only once and I would work there and earn money and improve my language. I prefer to go to the three-month Work and Travel program instead of one-month foreign language education.
 
 
Who can do Work and Travel? What does the program budget?
 
Anyone,  who expresses themselves in English and currently enrolled in a university, can be an applicant in the program. Apart from that, you need to prepare yourself for working part of the program. You meet people from different cultures. Although this will force you in the first place, you are returning with satisfaction.
 
Which company? Which job?
 
After you decide to choose the Work and Travel program, I recommend you to research the company. I searched about 15-20 companies and checked the conditions. Most companies offer excellent things. My advice is that you don't just go with the companies that talk about positive things. Because, there will be negative things as well as positive things.
 
Choosing a job with a tip will benefit you more. Being a waitress will help you communicate with people, but they want a high level of English skills for that job. I ate lunch and dinner at the hotel where I worked. I was also getting a tip. According to the job offers, you can evaluate the offers.
 
My employer at the hotel arranged my accommodation. All these details are available in your job offers. Some employers don't find home for you. In this case, the company can arrange a house for you.
 
I would definitely recommend the Work and Travel program. Even though I had difficulties, these difficulties were of great benefit to me. There are so many things that you learn. New cultures, new dishes, new languages … You should pay attention to company selection. Your goal of going abroad should be to improve your English as well as earn money.

Sometimes it is difficult to get reliable information on the Internet. Usually the presenters do not mention enough details and difficulties. It was more efficient for an experienced person to make a presentation. It also allows you to face the reality of this situation. This gives a great advantage. I think I can choose the Work and Travel program.”, he said.
