Types Of Hunger And The Awareness of Nutrition
Under the leadership of the Student Club of Nutrition and Dietetics of School of Health Sciences Department of Istanbul Gelişim University, a conference titled ‘Hunger Types and Nutrition Awareness was held at the Faculty of Fine Arts with the participation of Dietitian (PHD) Gizem Köse.

The human body needs energy to perform the necessary functions. This energy is provided by nutrients. The biological cycle that needs to be in the body to perform vital functions is disrupted for various reasons. Depending on internal and external factors, cellular hunger is not noticeable from time to time and this causes the daily cycle to deteriorate. Emotions and thoughts are included in the internal factors. Although we are not physiologically hungry, the need to eat during stressful periods and the feeling of consuming snacks during the course are examples of this.External factors are close surroundings, invitations and advertisements. When we go to the cinema, the desire to take a popcorn is an example.There are 3 kinds of hunger, namely Cellular (Biological) hunger, Sensory hunger and Emotional hunger.
Cellular hunger; it is the feeling of hunger that is created to provide the energy we need to perform life functions.Sensory hunger; Although we are not physiologically hungry, it is the impression we get from our sensory organs that address our senses such as eye, taste and smell.
Advertising campaigns affect individuals. Individuals are more likely to prefer fast food products because they are better in price, performance and visually.When a nutrient is consumed quickly, our senses cannot reach the feeling of saturation.
Emotional Hunger
Feelings, objects, events or individuals in our inner world is the impression.These impressions are reflected in feelings such as anger, disgust, happiness, sadness, surprise and fear.The end of thoughts is anxiety. Anxiety and stress result in emotional hunger. Should I diet? Is meat harmful or beneficial? How many calories do I lose weight? such thoughts cause mental hunger. In addition, the wrong information given in television programs pushes people into emotional hunger. In this type of hunger, nutrients cannot remove hunger. Awareness is an important stage in this type.
Eating Awareness
Awareness is to be at that moment and to live the moment when carrying internal and external processes. Eating awareness is the focus on the food eaten at that moment. Focus should be placed on eating only without being confused with activities such as watching television and studying. n large cities, due to the intensity of work, eating awareness began to disappear.
Nutrients must be consumed by recognizing how and why they are eaten, and by the concepts of physical hunger satiety. The consumption of nutrients in a slow, sensing and differential way creates saturation.Thus, the person can perform the nutritional function in a regular and balanced manner. Gaining a healthy eating habits is one of the factors that will help in weight control.
