Leukemia Week of November 2-8

A group of Nutrition and Dietetics (Eng) Department students from Istanbul Gelişim Univercity (LÖSEV) Club volunteers organised a visit to  hospital’s  Pediatric Oncology/ Hematology service  for    the  Childeren with Leukomi Week . During the visit, students played with  children  and   tried them  to forget  difficult process of the cancer treatment.

 Students had pre-school activities with children, and also met and talked with their parents. Merve Yılmaz, who is the second year  student of Nutrition and Dietetics,  made her first hospital visit during this period, expressed her feelings as follows:’’ ’It was one of the most special days I've had in my life. It is an incredible feeling to meet children with leukemia  fighting cancer and to give them a little happiness. I will be a  volunteer for the rest of my life.’’

Before the Children with Leukomi Week, our volunteers organised a book binder colouring activity with children in hospital, and book markers were given as a gift to people in interviews aimed attracting attention to cancer research.

Department of Nutrition and Dietetics (Eng) students supported LÖSEV's "Wear you mask, share your photo" campaign for the Children with Leukemia Week of November 2-8 .  Students wore  face masks  under the leadership of  Assist. Prof. Gokce Col   at Microbiology Laboratory and tried the give  message of, '' Leukemia is not contagious, only kindness is contagious '. Before the event, it was emphasized that dozens of people were diagnosed with cancer every day and cancer patients wore masks for  the protection themselves against infectious diseases and microbes.

From the LÖSEV Club members who are  studying  at Nutrition and Dietetics Department, visited  our  rector Prof. Dr. Burhan Aykac  to increase awareness of leukemia on 7th November.

İstanbul Gelişim University, LÖSEV Club work to create cancer awareness, organise many types of activities for cancer patients, to reduce  traumas experienced by the children in hospital environment and to make social responsibility awareness feeling among students.

IGU LÖSEV club which started with the Motto ‘You should also say stop the cancer’, aims to spread cancer awareness and the ways of protecting from cancer throughout the campus to students.
