 Administrative Ethics


Nowadays, with the change in management approach, the social environment pressure, the fundamental rights and justice approaches of the managers have been taken into consideration more than before. Managers should ensure that the fundamental rights in their institutions are not violated and that a fair and impartial environment is created in order to achieve the goals that will determine the future of the organization and their careers.


Administrative ethics involves the application of moral principles to the conduct of officials in organizations. The widespread use of practices and behaviours contrary to social values in the field of management directs institutions to develop ethical codes and make them a part of their culture. The most common unethical behaviours are; favouritism, nepotism, bribery, indifferentism, indifferentism, corruption, violence, oppression, aggression, political influence, physical harassment, departmentalism, gossip, abuse of duty and authority. Managers; must be honest, straightforward, certain, indulgent, responsible and act in accordance with the law, the code and the legislation without any discrimination of belief, race or gender. Health care managers need to establish the ethical attitude of the institution in order to make decisions effectively and provide the best for patients, employees and society. Managers should define and discuss ethical principles, determine how they are approached, and adopt an understanding of the practice to improve and maintain ethical performance.

Importance of Administrative Ethics
Businesses know that in this interactive environment provided by today's technology, the damage of not acting ethically will be very high for them. Their reputation and positive image creation will depend on their reliable relationships with their environment. This reliable relationship will make significant contributions to market values by increasing the reputation of enterprises. For this reason, businesses have to be more sensitive to ethical behaviour and relations with their stakeholders.

What is Ethics?
Ethics is the underlying values ​​of relationships among people, the moral qualities of good or bad, true or false, and a set or system of moral principles that are generally applied. In other words, it is defined as the code of moral principles that establish the standards of right or wrong, good or bad, that guide the behaviour of the person or group. Ethical values are defined as the principles and standards at the centre of the interaction between people. There are many ethical values. Justice, honesty, empathy, compassion, respect and responsibility are the most important ones.

What is Administrative Ethics?
Administrative ethics; principles or codes of conduct that must be observed in managerial actions. The concept of administrative ethics is related to many ethical concepts. Administration ethics is a functional area of ​​business ethics. Business ethics include professional ethics. Work ethic is a belief that hard work and diligence have a moral benefit and an inherent ability, virtue or value to strengthen character and individual abilities. In this context, administrative ethics is intertwined with work ethics.
The concept of administrative ethics aims to eliminate the unethical behaviours that exist in the enterprises and to create an organizational environment to prevent the unethical behaviours that exist or may exist.
 
Unethical Behavior
Some unethical behaviors in business; rude behaviour arising from drugs and alcohol, stealing personnel from one enterprise to another, harming the organization due to individual conflicts of interest, failure to carry out quality controls with due diligence, temporary layoffs, waste and misuse of the entity's assets, environmental pollution, obtaining inaccurate information from competitors, inaccurate accounting books and records, excessive gifts, accepting feasts, misleading ads, bribery and monetary purchases made within the company, selection of personnel and rewarding of personnel, discrimination in the process of punishment. These unethical behaviours that cause prejudice by society will adversely affect the formation and settlement of administrative ethics.
 
Ethical Principles for Managers
According to the field of administrative ethics, there are different views of different ethical systems about whether the ethical principles that a manager is expected to comply with are universal.
However, if a manager complies with the following ethical principles that will make it valuable;

  • Fair
  • Responsibility
  • Tolerance
  • To adopt the notions of human love and respect for human beings
  • Faith (religion, sect), race, do not discriminate gender
  • Acting in accordance with the law and regulations
  • Deliver the right to the labour of those who work
