Vertigo is the state of imbalance resulting from false stimuli from the body's balance systems or it can be occur when the correct stimuli are misinterpreted by the brain. It is not an disease, it is a symptom.
The inner ear have an important role in ensuring balance. In addition, the eyes, joints and muscles, brain and spinal cord are connected and work in harmony with each other to ensure balance. In most of the diseases affecting these organs, vertigo occurs. A multi-disciplinary approach of the departments of Otolaryngology, Audiology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation may be necessary when evaluating or treating patients with vertigo/dizziness.
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is the most common peripheral vestibular disease. It occurs with head movements and many people describing that they simply went to get out of bed one morning and the room started to spin. Effective treatment of this disease is possible with some maneuvers.
